So the ghosts can speak” a seventeen act play written and directed by Francesca Andre  which is followed by several musical guests and dance commemorating Women’s international month. The tales are told from  seventeen colorfully diverse perspectives.  They highlight the most powerful issues that women around the world deal with daily. .  Seventeen  remarkable women -Mariana soares, Emily Thomas, Temar France, Chengusoyane Kargbo, Hiroko Tanaka, Cheridan Westmoreland, Bibi Marie Perez, Bre Dean, Stacey Van Gorder, Claudia Turbides, Daryl dorsey, Kristy Powers, Jennifer Banner Sobers, Alicia Giangrisostomi, Stacy Kessler,  Mavis Martin,  Elizabeth Gee,  and writer/director Francesca Andre- place vitality and vigor into their figurative ghosts. Modern dance by Anna Nastrom, and a serenade from nostalgic folk pop singer Lindsey Wilson will help guide those lost sisters to salvation. The energy, excitement, and enthusiasm of  all of these feminine talents will be the force behind the resurrection…

So the ghosts can speak are stories of stolen innocence told by the ghosts themselves. Seventeen emotionally charged acts of soul-gripping monologues that answer the question, If these Ghosts could speak… what would we hear?  What would they say?   These are the narratives of women whose spirits have been broken by abuse of the worst kind- sexual, physical, and emotional.  We see them in the flesh… lovers, sisters, friends, mothers, neighbors, wives, and co-workers who, through tales of tragedy, personify the strength, courage, and tenacity of a woman.   They seek resurrection by reliving the past, because they long to exist in the present.  These seventeen ghosts will speak aloud, and as individuals, shine visible as beacons that will lead other lost ghosts to the land of the living.  Be there at the Producers’ club Crown Theatre on March 29th to witness the light.

A ghost is one that is unseen, transparent, and invisible to the naked eye.   A ghost is the supposed spirit of somebody who has perished or died.  In some instances ghosts walk among the living.  She can stand before you, but you won’t see her.  She can converse with poise and excitement, but her truer words are heavy with sadness and despair.  Her smiles will be loud and cheerful, but her cries will be hidden, tearless, and inaudible.  She is the unseen, unheard spirit in the flesh.  She is a ghost, trapped in the purgatory of her past.   And she longs to speak.

THANK YOU AND YOU’RE WELCOME! http://thesocialistmovement.com/blog/2008/10/10/thank-you-and-you%e2%80%99re-welcome/ http://thesocialistmovement.com/blog/2008/10/10/thank-you-and-you%e2%80%99re-welcome/#comments Fri, 10 Oct 2008 04:27:27 +0000 Administrator http://thesocialistmovement.com/blog/2008/10/10/thank-you-and-you%e2%80%99re-welcome/ I set high standards for my self and I try to go hard all day everyday. I try to make sure I don’t loose sight of my purpose. I pretty much think about my pursuit towards happiness all day long, everyday. Recently I hit the city to see a real positive brother named J. SaKiya Sandifer. Sakiya has put out two extraordinary books. THINK THINK THINK AND THINK AGAIN and he co-wrote THANK YOU AND YOU’RE WELCOME with Kanye West. Listening to Sakiya was like talking to myself in the mirror. He affirmed everything that I was thinking and going through. It was refreshing, reaffirming and exactly what I needed. I also took stock of the many wonderful blessings I have in life. My radiant and beautiful wife, loving children, parents and siblings. I’m still hungry and feel that its time to turn it up a notch. Starting two street-wear brands is a challenge but I am learning more and more about myself along this journey and it is inspiring every step of the way. “Everyday is an opportunity for you to become better…TAKE ADVANTAGE!” by J. SaKiya Sandifer.

“Artists Who Care” Benefit Show/Fundraising Event For Fokal http://thesocialistmovement.com/blog/2008/09/18/artists-who-care-benefit-showfundraising-event-for-fokal/ http://thesocialistmovement.com/blog/2008/09/18/artists-who-care-benefit-showfundraising-event-for-fokal/#comments Thu, 18 Sep 2008 10:45:10 +0000 Administrator http://thesocialistmovement.com/blog/2008/09/18/artists-who-care-benefit-showfundraising-event-for-fokal/ FOKAL is a foundation dedicated to the promotion of democracy and open society values through support of education, culture, grassroots development and the reinforcement of civil society. It has been operating in Haiti for more than 13 years with total dedication, commitment and transparency. Socialist took the movement out to BKLYN to connect with comrades for a great cause and a great performance. Truth be told I arrived rather late so I was only able to catch the end of the show however it was worth the trip. Judah Tribe performed and I was able to meet with lead singer Josh David who truly has the heart and soul of a lion. I have to send a very special thank you to Francesca Andre from Nocia Llc for the invite and I must also commend her for her strong work ethic, talents and beauty.

This event was an effort to raise awareness of art in the humanitarian field by bringing artists and people from different corners of the world to take action. TiPa TiPa/step by step Haiti is a school program for children 0-12 and their families. It offers quality and modern education opportunities to children from disadvantaged environments using an individualized child-centered approach, and encourages participation from families and local communities. Sending a donation to FOKAL is your opportunity to be a part of a community that is committed to promote Art and culture as well as fighting for change in the world.

The below schools are in need of immediate support (roof, cement, furniture, doors, etc)

Ecole Nationale d’Ottito (near Montruis) – roof severely damaged -Ecole presbyterale Saint Martin de Porres (near Paillant) – roof blown away by the winds, three classrooms destroyed; -Ecole Nationale Jn Mary Vincent (near Gros Morne): Half of the roof Destroyed and computers totally damaged; -Ecole Methodiste de Duplan (above Petion-Ville): bathrooms completely Destroyed. What a weekend. BIG UP BROOKLYN!! Harriet’s Alter Ego did it once again. BackYard Couture was a wonderful experience and I certainly learned a lot. Socialist received a lot of positive feedback and exposure. We had a few friends stop in to pay us a visit. I was pleasantly surprised to see a familiar face from the Bronx. It was a night that was filled with good energy, wonderful people and great performances, consisting of recording artist Mickey Factz, RAYE 6 and visual art work provided by the illustrious Amanda Diva, Aisha Cousins, Nathaniel M. Quinn, Lisei Szatmari and Monique Schubert. Also as usual there was a lot of networking going on and I hope that a lot of wonderful projects will come into fruition as a result. There is a lot of work and planning to do in effort to reach our goals. Check out the pix below
