FOKAL is a foundation dedicated to the promotion of democracy and open society values through support of education, culture, grassroots development and the reinforcement of civil society. It has been operating in Haiti for more than 13 years with total dedication, commitment and transparency. Socialist took the movement out to BKLYN to connect with comrades for a great cause and a great performance. Truth be told I arrived rather late so I was only able to catch the end of the show however it was worth the trip. Judah Tribe performed and I was able to meet with lead singer Josh David who truly has the heart and soul of a lion. I have to send a very special thank you to Francesca Andre from Nocia Llc for the invite and I must also commend her for her strong work ethic, talents and beauty.
This event was an effort to raise awareness of art in the humanitarian field by bringing artists and people from different corners of the world to take action. TiPa TiPa/step by step Haiti is a school program for children 0-12 and their families. It offers quality and modern education opportunities to children from disadvantaged environments using an individualized child-centered approach, and encourages participation from families and local communities. Ecole Nationale d’Ottito (near Montruis) – roof severely damaged -Ecole presbyterale Saint Martin de Porres (near Paillant) – roof blown away by the winds, three classrooms destroyed; -Ecole Nationale Jn Mary Vincent (near Gros Morne): Half of the roof Destroyed and computers totally damaged; -Ecole Methodiste de Duplan (above Petion-Ville): bathrooms completely Destroyed.
